Blais announces tree planting for Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day, Councillor Stephen Blais planted a red maple tree, donated by J. A. Laporte Flowers and Nursery, at the Avalon Lake.

This year’s theme for Earth Day is “Billion Acts of Green”.

“In coming years, hundreds of trees will be planted around the lake through the City’s Community Tree Planting Initiative,” says Blais. “This is an opportunity for our community to come together to enrich the neighborhood and environment we live in.”

In addition to the environmental benefits the tree planting will enhance this important feature of the community.

“Planting trees around Avalon Lake represents an investment in our local environment and will be enjoyed by our future generations.”

More than 6 million Canadians join 1 billion people in over 170 countries in staging events and projects to address local environmental issues.
